Dixie Jet
Rally 2002
St. George, Utah

John Redman has won numerous awards with this scale weathered
MiG-15. He has it functioning perfectly with JetCat P-120 power and a wing tank
release system. The model looks absolutely real and appropriately camoflauged
when flying against the desert background.
BVM receives many "letters of
compliment" for John's assitance with their BVM jet
projects.
Tom Dodgen and Jason Somes entertained the
spectators at the half-time show on Saturday with these JetCat powered BobCats.
The duo act had a surprise ending when both engines were turned off at
altitude, the models dead sticked on the runway then restarted for the taxi
back.
This Sabre has a history of ownership but now
belongs to Spencer Maze and has been converted to turbine power using BVM's
conversion kit #F86TC1. Spencer flew it often during the event, sometimes in a
formation routine with Dan Avilla and his F-86.
BVM rep Harley Condra from San Diego,
California spends a lot of time at events and on web chat rooms helping BobCat
owners with their questions and details on finishing and flying the model. He
exercised this RAM powered XL several times at St.
George.
Fresh from its win at Top Gun '02, the Spirit
of St. Louis II F-100F sits on the ramp at Utah, "Loaded for bear". I flew it
once on Sunday to show it off, it will be used in future scale
competitions.
All of these jets and the Super Bandit came
out of the BVM 28' trailer for each day's activities. At time of photo, the
Super Bandit was on one of its many missions with pilot extroadinaire, Jason
Somes. He says he likes the way it handles. Both F-100's were flown at St.
George. The "D" is powered with an AMT AT-280SP and the "F" with an AMT AT-450.
I guess the rumor about one of them crashing the week prior is
unfounded.
Bob West and son Mark enjoyed the event with
Mark's uniquely decorated MiG-15. Great future in jet modeling for the young
drivers.
Tony Frackowiak shows off BVM's all new for
'02, 60" Sabre Jet. Tony and Doug Cronkhite took turns flying Beauteous Butch
II and both had favorable comments about how "solid" it feels in flight and on
the ground. One of the many features of the redone kit is its stiffer landing
gear mounts and a new nose gear unit. The model is stronger throughout allowing
it to be powered by a multitude of engine choices (click to read more).
This factory
prototype was finished using a combination of automotive silver paint with BVM
Metal-Kote accents. The process is completely described in the assembly manual.
Kit decals, with special adornments from ProMark, produce a very acceptable
scale finish with minimum effort.

All 9 jets back in the trailer, we stopped for a last look into the valley at St. George.
