Speed
by Bob Violett
The Thunder Power 40C Pro
Series LiPo's really deliver superior performance. Since
in-flight airspeed is easy to document with Eagle Tree Telemetry,
and since top end speed is the ultimate measure of airframe and
power system efficiency, we thought it appropriate to put these
batteries and the EVF 5612 to the test.
A down hill entry, followed by
a 1,000 ft low level run, produced 235 mph on the 3rd attempt in the
same flight. The first two trial runs were in the mid 220's.
The Camo Electra (built from an
early kit) with its "Extended Gear Door option" is a clean bird and
the control inputs must be smooth to minimize drag.
We make these special runs
occasionally to confirm that the BVM system is state-of-the-art.
To participate in this activity, the airframe preparation, control
rigging, and pilot skills must all be excellent. There is
little room for error.
