Back,
Please Stay Out Of The Clouds
By Bob Violett

Avoid flying a jet model if the
ceiling is less than 800 ft above the ground and if the visibility
is restricted to less than 1 mile.
Should you lose sight of the
model in a cloud, the following procedure is appropriate:
• Shut down the
engine immediately.
• Apply full down elevator, full rudder and
opposite aileron to induce an inverted spin. This will stop
the model from flying away from the point of entry and reduce its
rate of descent.
• After the model is visible, release the control
input to recover from the spin and proceed with an "engine out"
landing.
It would be prudent to practice
the inverted spin and recovery on a clear day.
