The third week in October marks the great
pilgrimage west for some of the East Coast Jet Pilots; this year was
no different. After I prepped two of BV’s planes, the Cougar and
eBandit, Bill Freeland graciously delivered them to Rei Gonzalez’s
toy hauler located in South Florida. With the driving duties left in the hands of Lucas
Martinez, a 6 hour plane ride was all it took for me to meet up with
friends at the Best in the West Jet Rally.
Joe Castaleo and his Crew did a superb job keeping the 135+ pilots and
helpers organized. We were fortunate to receive near perfect flying
conditions all four days. The on-site dinners and evening
entertainment were very enjoyable.
As always, I had a great time catching up with customers and friends,
most I only see once a year. With great food, great flying, and lots
of laughs, this is a must attend event!

Gregg Fullington recently completed
this Jets Munt VT-80 powered BobCat. It flies
straight as an arrow in any wind with the help of a
Cortex.
New California resident, Steve
Dimaio, made sure the batteries were cycled often during
the event. I think this eBandit is his latest favorite.
Steve won the "Best Electric Jet Performance" trophy.
Congrats!
Gerardo Diaz finished his
Skymaster Cougar just in time for the event. He
uses a Cheetah 140 for power.
Rei Gonzalez is very pleased with
the performance his Cheetah provides in the 1:6th scale
BVM F-16.
Barry Hou is officially the
master of the Skymaster F-14. Barry used all 18 channels
on the DX18.
I made sure to get plenty of
stick-time on the factory eBandit. Since I was still on
Eastern time, flying at sunrise was the norm.
Steve and I tried some formation
flights with the BVM Cougar and the BVM Sabre.
Roger Ko is caught securing the
hatch on his KingTech K-60G powered Sabre Jet. This is a
perfect combo; easy to transport and easy to fly.
Ron Ivaldi brought
his two new jets, the Bandit and BobCat. Ron let me
exercise each one several times throughout the event.
Roger Ko enjoys his new P-120
powered KingCat. This is a perfect weekend jet.
Gonzalo Martinez is pleased with
his Skymaster A-10. Gonzalo has added subtle details to
the aircraft and
has dialed in his flying.
Ken McSpadden preparing the
cameras for another formation flight with Mike Adams.
This duo is very well practiced. They make formation
flying look easy, even the smoke is synchronized. How do
they do it?

Marcos Liu took the BVM Cougar
for a spin, I think he liked it!
Dr. Ken Wagner and Col. Thacker
were seen on the flight line often. "Wags" had a great
time flying his Bandit ARF.
BVM is well represented in
Southern California by these three active turbine and
electric builders and pilots. Thank you Roger, Steve,
Gregg for your hard work and constant support.
Dan Avilla just completed
another flight with his trusty BVM 80" F-86.
I really enjoyed flying and buddy
boxing the BVM Cougar. This one uses a JetCat P-100RX
for power. 7 minute flights are typical. The Cougar is a
very stable aircraft with no bad habits in the landing
pattern.
Gerardo and Steve flew Sabres in
formation. One electric (12S), the other turbine (K-60)
powered. Good show!
Mark Ferreira of Dinogy Lipos
flew his early Aggressor II.
Shaun Robee won the "Rookie of
the Year" award with his KingCat.
Ron Derhacopian treated many of
us to Carne Asada and Chicken Fajitas. Ron is an amazing
chef as well as a modeler. Thanks Ron!
